Mapping worlds : understanding worlds | |
---|---|
Mapping Worlds sees itself as a temporary laboratory of photography with images of our world, seen from today's and from an historical perspective. Photography uncovers foreign cultures and makes them accessible or it draws pictures of different societies. But photography also pushes psychological, social and political dimensions into focus. The insert Aufbruch in die Gegenwart embraces 200 historical documentary photographs from the Herzog photo collection in the Schweizerisches National Museum, following the path of a country from an agricultural to an industrial economy in the period from1840 to 1960. Published to accompany the 8th International Photo Triennale Esslingen 2010. English and German text. |
